What We’re Crushing On This Week 2.15.20

  • In case you missed these reviews last year from 1 Wine Dude… I, for one, didn’t realize that Pedernales Cellars has won so many saddles from Houston Rodeo Uncorked! They may need a barn soon just for the saddles! (1 Wine Dude)
  • Great article on “atypical” wine typicity in wine evaluations. I understand the desire to use typicity as a criterion, but it is inherently backward-looking. (WA Wine Report)
  • We think comparing Texas wines against the rest of the world should be done more often. Jessica Dupuy and Texas Monthly provided a wonderful template for doing so! (Texas Monthly)
  • Planning and building in Northern California is remarkably expensive and time consuming. I purchased grapes from the Saggio Hills vineyard in 2011 (now called Montage Healdsburg project), and they were hoping to break ground for this project in 2012. It is now 2020, and the project has not been completed. (North Bay Business Journal)
  • Huh. “A womanizing tortoise whose rampant sex life may have single-handedly saved his entire species from extinction has retired from his playboy lifestyle.” (CNN)
